NUST Merit Formula Explained
A closer look at why NUST weights NET at 75%, how the remaining 25% splits between Matric, FSc and IBCC equivalence, and how this compares with other Pakistani entry tests.
The full formula, restated
FSc/Matric route: Aggregate = (Matric % × 10%) + (FSc Part 1 % × 15%) + (NET/200 × 75%).
A Level/O Level route: Aggregate = (IBCC equivalence % × 25%) + (NET/200 × 75%).
Why NET is weighted so heavily
NUST's own admission test carries far more weight than school results because it standardises applicants coming from dozens of different boards and grading systems across Pakistan and abroad. Board marking standards vary noticeably between provinces and between local vs O/A Level systems, so a single, NUST controlled test gives the university a more consistent way to rank a diverse applicant pool than board percentages alone could provide.
