SECTION B THE FORMULA

NUST aggregate formula for 2026

NUST, formally the National University of Sciences and Technology, converts three separate results into a single merit percentage for every undergraduate applicant. Unlike Punjab's ECAT system or the MDCAT route into medical colleges, NUST runs its own in house admission test the NUST Entry Test (NET) and weights it far more heavily than school results. NET alone accounts for 75% of your final aggregate, which is why serious test preparation matters more than chasing a few extra marks in FSc or Matric once your board exams are already behind you.

The remaining 25% comes from your academic record. Local students who sat FSc or Matric under a Pakistani board (or the Federal Board, FBISE) have that 25% split into 10% Matric and 15% FSc Part 1. Overseas and O Level/A Level candidates instead submit a single equivalence percentage issued by the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen (IBCC), which folds Cambridge or other international results into a Pakistani style percentage. That IBCC figure is weighted at 25%, matching the combined Matric+FSc weight used for local board students, so both routes are evaluated on the same 100 point scale.

SECTION C WORKED EXAMPLE

See the formula applied to real numbers

FSc / Matric student

  • Matric: 990 / 1100 → 90.0% × 10% = 9.00
  • FSc Part 1: 495 / 550 → 90.0% × 15% = 13.50
  • NET: 152 / 200 → 76.0% × 75% = 57.00

Aggregate = 9.00 + 13.50 + 57.00 = 79.50%

A Level student

  • IBCC equivalence: 88.0% × 25% = 22.00
  • NET: 160 / 200 → 80.0% × 75% = 60.00

Aggregate = 22.00 + 60.00 = 82.00%

Because NET carries 75% of the weight, a 10 mark improvement on the entry test (5% of 200) lifts your aggregate by roughly 3.75 points far more than the same percentage gain in FSc or Matric. Once your board results are locked in, put your remaining prep time into NET.

The same aggregate formula applies to every undergraduate programme, but the aggregate needed to secure a seat varies enormously by demand. Computer Science and Software Engineering at SEECS are consistently the most competitive, followed by Electrical Engineering, while newer or less advertised disciplines can admit at a noticeably lower aggregate in the same cycle.

SECTION F STEP BY STEP

How to calculate your NUST aggregate

  1. Convert Matric marks to a percentage

    Divide your obtained Matric/SSC marks by the total marks and multiply by 100.

  2. Convert FSc Part 1 marks to a percentage

    Do the same for your FSc Part 1 (HSSC Part 1) result. NUST only counts Part 1 for the aggregate Part 2 is not required if it hasn't been announced yet.

  3. Work out your NET percentage

    Divide your NET score by 200 and multiply by 100. Use your highest score if you sat more than one NET session.

  4. Apply the official weightages

    Multiply Matric % by 0.10, FSc % by 0.15, and NET % by 0.75. A Level/O Level students multiply their IBCC equivalence % by 0.25 instead of the first two steps.

  5. Add the three weighted values

    The sum is your final NUST aggregate percentage, used to rank you against every other applicant for your chosen programme and campus.

SECTION G THE ENTRY TEST

NUST Entry Test (NET) pattern

NET is a 200 MCQ, computer based test held across four sessions a year (NET 1 to NET 4), based on the FBISE HSSC Part I and Part II curriculum. There is no negative marking, so attempt every question. Subject weightage depends on the stream you're applying to:

SECTION H ELIGIBILITY & MERIT LISTS

Eligibility, minimum aggregate, and merit lists

There's no single published cut off aggregate for NUST as a whole. What actually determines whether you get a seat is the closing merit for your specific programme and campus that cycle a number that moves every year with the size and strength of the applicant pool. A Computer Science seat at SEECS in Islamabad might close well above 85%, while a less advertised discipline at a constituent college can admit candidates with a noticeably lower aggregate in the same year. Two baseline rules apply to everyone regardless of programme: a minimum of 60% marks in both Matric and FSc (or the equivalent IBCC percentage), and a NET attempt within the current admission cycle.

Once merit lists open, NUST typically releases them in multiple rounds so seats vacated by candidates who don't confirm can be offered to the next ranked applicant.
